Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

Two of my colleagues at work recommended this book series to me and I am so glad they did. I’d been eyeing this series for a while but just never got to the point of reading them. But this May I did!

My plan was to write a review after the first book, but I was just too excited to read the second one and jumped right into it. A week or so later, all fours books had been devoured!

This is a great fantasy series that was easy to read and to get into. Sarah J. Maas writes in an easy but thoughtful way. At first, the first couple of chapters, I found the writing style and the premise to be a bit predictable, but I thought I’d continue to give it a try. I’m not one to quit a book judging it by the first chapters alone. I am so glad those first chapters wasn’t defining the series, because this series turned out to be awesome and not at all predictable. Great plots and plot twists and great characters, even the evil ones. I love how what I thought would be a typical romantic fantasy story turned into something so epic and that romance wasn’t the main thing here. I really like how  love, infatuation and friendship is portrayed and how we get to see the characters evolve and actually be reasonable.IMG_20160528_202023

Celaena Sardothien is brought out of the prison (in which she is because she’s a assassin and got captured) and into the castle to compete to be the King’s champion. The Prince Dorian is the one who chose her to be in this game and along with him, his friend and captain of the guard Chaol, the story takes off. I don’t want to get into any details really, just read it instead!

There are currently four books released in this series and there are two more coming up before the series is complete.

The Design

As many books, this series has different covers, US and UK versions. I read all books on my kindle app and so I’ll comment on these covers (as seen above).

This is a fantasy series that has so many facets to it and I must say I like that the covers are quite simple. Celaena stands in the middle with clothes and accessories that match the book. Coloured smoke in the background seems to be a reoccurring theme in fantasy novels so it’s not that original, but that’s OK.
